Noordhoek and the Greater valley. How I LOVE thee:-)
I live in this incredible village. I was born here and not sure if I will ever really leave for too long.
I grew up surrounded by two incredible oceans . The Indian & the Atlantic. One warm and dreamy and the other wild and cold.
Noordhoek in on the Atlantic side, some times turquoise and tropical after the big winds have died down & other times wild , dark & stormy..Today its stormy!
Both oceans offer so much , Noordhoek beach is the wildest , largest and cleanest of the Cape town beaches that I know of . Embraced by the mountains that are filled with clean running rivers, incredible waterfalls and mountain reservoirs. The cliffs of Chapman’s Peak tower over Noordhoek beach , giving a sense of comfort & protection to all who spend a moment to meditate on its grandeur.
This beach humbles me and gives me great joy.
Noordhoek beach itself is a healthy biosphere, we have two back shore tidal lagoons that are home to thousands of birds that migrate each year, some of thesebirds include:
Sandpipers, black oyster catchers, seagulls, Kingfishers, Cormorants, Fish eagles , Pelicans & Herons.
We have the Cape Otter that plays in the river channels and have many amazing sea mammals like the Southern right whale who come past each year to either mate, give birth and get protection in our calm waters.
Ofcourse we have some of the best surf too and high wind for the kite surfers. When the tidal lagoons are full, you can kayak the length of the noordhoek side. ( not sure you are allowed to though ) But if you’re like me , this beach is for my dogs & I. And summer sunset sessions with friends & family.
And as in these images you can see some of the many horses that are trained here from the racing stables.
Its quite astounding how a beach can offer us so much beauty. Thank you mother earth!
Please show respect to our beaches and pick up litter wherever you can , as its up to all of us.
